Welcome to Aurobindo Library

The Aurobindo Library is an integral part of Dr. Shantilal K. Somaiya School of Commerce & Business Studies. Located on the 3rd floor of the Aurobindo Building, spread across 600+ sq. mt with a seating capacity of more than 125 students it caters to the academic needs of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students, serving as a vibrant hub for knowledge and learning.

Spread across two thoughtfully designed floors, the library features a well-furnished, air-conditioned reference section. The reference collection provides users with in- depth learning opportunities supported by a diverse and comprehensive range of books, further enriched with a wide range of newspapers, magazines, and journals.

The circulation section is designed with open-access shelves, enabling students to freely explore the collection and select books for home issue. Complementing this is the open-library reading space, which offers a refreshing environment that encourages collaborative learning, group discussions, teamwork, and creative thinking.

The library is equipped with RFID-enabled 3M security gates, Wi-Fi connectivity, online access to resources, an integrated book search system (OPAC), CCTV surveillance, and self-check systems, ensuring a seamless and technology-driven user experience.

Whether you are here to read, research, explore, or prepare, the library provides a space that supports every stage of your academic journey.

E-resources

Somaiya Vidyavihar University offers seamless 24×7 remote access to its digital library resources through RemoteXs. This service enables users to conveniently access e-books, e-journals, databases, and other online resources anytime and from anywhere, including off-campus locations. It ensures uninterrupted learning and research support, allowing students and faculty to stay connected with academic resources beyond the physical boundaries of the library.

Software

Keeping in mind the research needs of students, the library provides access to 20+ SPSS licenses for data analysis. These can be utilized within the library premises and are easily accessible in the Language Lab, with students required to carry their ID cards for access.

The New Arrivals in the Library are available in the Reference New Arrivals Section on the 3rd floor of the Aurobindo Building. Kindly visit the library and carry your ID card for a smooth and uninterrupted reference or issue process.

The library collection is accessible online with a single click using web OPAC, allowing students to log in using their SVV Net ID and explore the entire collection with real-time availability and updated information.

Anti-plagiarism Software

Turnitin software is available for plagiarism checking, and UG, PG students, Ph.D. scholars, and faculty members are encouraged to use it to assess similarity in their theses, dissertations, and research publications.

Newspaper Clippings

The library compiles newspaper clippings on education and allied subjects and shares them with users through daily email alerts.

Library Rules & Guidelines

 

General Conduct

  • Always maintain silence within the library premises.
  • Mobile phones must be kept on silent mode and used only in designated areas.
  • Users are required to carry their valid ID cards while accessing library facilities.

Use of Library Resources

  • Library materials must be handled with care.
  • Marking, underlining, or damaging resources is strictly prohibited. Books taken from shelves should be placed on designated tables or trolleys after use.
  • All materials must be properly issued before being taken out of the library and returned or renewed on or before the due date. Library privileges are strictly non-transferable.

Digital & Infrastructure Usage

  • Library computers, Wi-Fi, and digital resources are to be used strictly for academic and research purposes.
  • Access to inappropriate or non-academic content is not permitted.

Use of Library Resources

  • The library premises are under CCTV surveillance for safety and security.
  • Any damage to library property or misuse of facilities will invite disciplinary action. Users are expected to cooperate with library staff and adhere to all guidelines.
